RUNNER’S EDGE WINS!!!!

Employees at Runner’s Edge of Boca Raton dominate Corporate Run

By Joseph Kairalla

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Full story posted at PalmBeachPost.com

WEST PALM BEACH — This year’s Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run turned into a showcase for the employees of The Runner’s Edge store in Boca Raton.

Jordan Zwick, who has been the general manager of the store for almost a year, battled windy conditions to win the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event in 16 minutes, 18 seconds. The conditions caused Zwick to run more than a minute slower than his personal-best of 15:14.

“This was my first corporate run and it was definitely great to win,” said Zwick, 23. “This whole event was awesome. I love running, so it was great being part of something promoting health, fitness and running.”

Laura Chandler, Zwick’s co-worker at The Runner’s Edge, won the women’s division in 21:45. Chandler, 26, says this was her first victory in a competitive race and also her first victory as a Chandler. She got married just two weeks ago.

“I’ve been running for about two years, now so it was certainly nice to win a real race,” Chandler said. “The fact Jordan won also only added to the excitement.”

Chandler won’t take much time off after her victory. She plans to compete in the FAU Wellness Triathlon on Sunday at Spanish River Park.

Zwick and Chandler weren’t the only winners from The Runner’s Edge. Their boss Carol Virga was the female CEO champion in a time of 27:48.

“We all work together everyday, so it was great for us all to be out here and win,” Zwick said. “It’s going to be a good day at work tomorrow.”

David Wantman, CEO of the Wantman Group, a West Palm Beach engineering and planning company, was the male CEO champion with a time of 24:27.

A total of 1,010 runners from 49 different companies competed in the race, which is designed to promote health, wellness and camaraderie in the workplace.

The 5K race was held at Jose Marti Park on Flagler Drive, the sixth time one was held in downtown West Palm Beach. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the American Red Cross.

“I thought it was just an amazing, fun event,” said Zwick. “I can’t believe how many people competed and how much fun it was. It was a real tribute to promoting a healthy lifestyle.”
